Chapter 11: The Walk Through

October 1, 2003

Our walk through was scheduled for the morning on September 28, 2001.  We showed up on time, and met one of the builder's customer service reps.  Our walk through got underway without delay.

Construction of our new homeThe walk through is pretty much the same walk through that is performed when you buy a resale home.  The rep showed us each room, described the features, and explained how to operate stuff like the water sprinkler timer, and the garage door opener.  But all that is pretty self-explanatory anyway.  But the walk through is also an opportunity for the builder to tell you everything you need to know about their warrantee and customer service.

This is probably the best time to point out any problems areas, because the customer service rep is right there with you.  So, we pointed out scratches in the paint, dings in the walls, loose fitting screws, mostly a bunch of small stuff.  One thing Steve pointed out was the hole in the upstairs floor (that got covered over by the carpet).  By the end of the walk through, the rep had a long list of items to fix.

The walk through lasted about one hour.

Once finished, the customer support rep handed over the keys.  We were now ready to move in!
